Twenty-five years ago, a man of valour, platinum educationist, agitator for social justice and good governance, and humanitarian, departed a world he strove so hard to make better.

It was for this reason that all roads led to Mayflower School on Sunday, 28th July, 2019, as people trooped in to pay homage to a sage in person of the Late Dr. Augustus Taiwo Solarin.

At exactly 9 am, the lot assembled at his graveside situated within the premises of the educational institution established by him and his wife, Late Madam Sheila Solarin, to honour him through a Wreath Laying Ceremony organised by the Solarins and the Mayflower Old Students Association.

The gathering was addressed by the MOSA President, Dr. Rotimi Akinlesi, Pa Adenuga, the daughter of the indefatigable Tai, Ms. Corin Solarin, as well as Dr. Wale Omole – all products of the Great Mayflower School.

Representatives from various class sets then took turns to place colourful wreaths on the tomb of Oga Tasere. If you were present at the event but never knew who Dr. Tai Solarin was before yesterday, it would have been vivid to you that he was indeed an icon highly reverenced far and wide.because those that were around to celebrate the patriotic one were neither bothered nor distracted by the persistent rainfall.

A Community Gathering also took place at the Tai Solarin Hall before everyone signed out for the day. Reviews from participant, both the ones who were physically present and those who watched the live broadcast on Facebook indicates that a man like Tai never dies. He lives on through his life-changing legacies.

The Solarins extend their profound gratitude to all those who contributed in one way or the other to make the programme a success. May your road be rough.
